Songzio Unveils First Co-Ed Collection
At Paris Men’s Fashion Week
This season, SONGZIO made a significant mark at the 25th Spring/Summer Paris Men’s Fashion Week by presenting its first-ever co-ed collection. The collection, titled “BRIGHT STAR,” showcases a masterful blend of the brand’s signature elements with a fresh, youthful twist.
A Palette of Sophistication and Youthful Vibrance, Songzio’s 'Bright Star' Collection is a celebration of colour and artistry. Dominated by the brand’s iconic black, grey, and navy tones, the collection also introduces playful hints of sky blue and pink, injecting a sense of youthful exuberance. Beyond the traditional fabric colours, the collection is illuminated by colourful aquarelles and oil paintings intricately printed on the garments, transforming them into walking canvases.
Bridging the Past and Present: Romantic Utilitarianism Meets Modern Technical Tailoring, the collection draws inspiration from the romantic yet utilitarian post-war era, blending seamlessly with SONGZIO’s unique technical tailoring and oriental modernism. This convergence creates a narrative that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking, reflecting a deep respect for the past while embracing the possibilities of the future.
BRIGHT STAR is a symbol of hope and dualism. The 'BRIGHT STAR' collection is rooted in a series of aquarelle portraits depicting youthful boys, embodying limitless wonder and pure imagination. These portraits evolved into the central artwork of the collection: the Bright Star Tetraptych, an oil on canvas masterpiece. The paintings depict the North Star, symbolizing steadfastness and serving as a guiding light toward the future.
The collection embodies Songzio’s persistent concept of dualism, exploring themes of order and disorder, symmetry and asymmetry, light and darkness, curves and angles, and more. This intricate dance of contrasts is evident throughout the collection, creating a visual and emotional journey that is both complex and serene.
Dramatically rounded cocoon silhouettes, exaggerated volumes, and sculptural draping instil a sense of order in the collection. Transformative layering, complex patchworks, and asymmetrical mobiles introduce an element of iconoclastic disorder. This interplay of structure and fluidity is a hallmark of the collection’s romantic yet modernistic aesthetic.
Central to the collection are the asymmetric mobiles—unique, hand-cut pieces linked together to evoke sculptural beauty in stillness and elegant fluidity in motion. The contrasting use of fabrics further enhances this duality. Bonded wool, tweed, metallic fabrics, and synthetic leather create bold, dramatic silhouettes, while lighter, transparent materials like silk, organza, mesh, cotton, and linen add a delicate, fluid touch.
A masterpiece in motion, the versatility of fabrics in the 'Bright Star' collection renders it sculptural in stillness and fluid in motion. The dramatic cocoon and voluminous bell shapes of the garments become strikingly visible through hard, textured materials reflecting the meticulous patchwork of light fabrics with a sense of elegant movement.
Songzio has crafted a collection that is not only visually stunning but also rich with symbolic meaning. It is a testament to the brand’s ability to fuse tradition with innovation, creating pieces that are timeless yet contemporary. As the collection moves from the runway to the streets, it will undoubtedly continue to inspire and captivate, much like the North Star it draws its name from.
