SHIATZY CHEN - Masterful Fusion Of East And West

Shiatzy Chen’s Spring-Summer 2025 show at Paris Fashion Week dazzled attendees and celebrities at the Palais de Tokyo. The collection, titled “Stroke of Brilliance”  beautifully merges Eastern and Western traditions. Models filled the catwalk with energy, showcasing swirling patterns representing this fusion.

Drawing from the fluidity of Chinese culture, the collection celebrates creativity and self-expression, with the Chinese brushes as a symbol of boundless inspiration.

Known for her East-meets-West aesthetic, Shiatzy Chen skilfully combines Chinese artistry, exquisite embroidery, and luxurious delicate lace, resulting in a collection that is both elegant and approachable. Designs inspired by irises evoke the fluidity of calligraphy, blending traditional craftsmanship with a modern touch.

The collection showcased a captivating mix of contrasts. Traditional Chinese elements, like bellybands and diagonal lapel vests, pay homage to the 1920s with their straight silhouettes and low-waist cuts. An eye-catching piece was a black ensemble featuring a cropped top, accented by ruffled sleeves and delicate lace. The collection maintains a vibrant, uplifting mood, with organic embellishments breathing life into each garment. Key motifs like the “dragonfly” and “iris” take centre stage, enhanced by mesmerising patterns that create an immersive fashion experience. The majestic  Dragonfly symbolises elegance and eternity, perfectly balancing tradition and innovation.

Contemporary minimalism appeared in an all-white structured coat layered over a simple top and shorts, featuring drawstring accents that blend sporty influences with refined elegance. Beaded vests and short-hemmed tank dresses were reimagined into luxurious versions, free from cultural or historical constraints. Accessories and shoes featured designs reminiscent of the soft yet precise strokes of a chinese brush, adding a delicate balance of sharpness and fluidity to the looks.

Craftsmanship is central to this collection, with textured fabrics mimicking coral and shimmering lace, while relaxed elements like denim and linen introduce a youthful, fresh elegance. The colour palette, rich in black, white, khaki, celadon, and soft yellow hues, captures serene landscapes and strikes a balance between innovation and tradition. Grounded in its Eastern roots yet infused with contemporary flair, this collection exudes quiet strength and refined delicacy.
