“At 18:30 London time on 8 September 2022,
Buckingham Palace issued an official statement:
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”





Balmoral Castle is located in the Scottish highlands where the Queen spends a cosy and free private time every summer. On 6 September, she received the new Prime Minister, Liz Truss at Balmoral and became the last appointment of a new Prime Minister during the Queen's lifetime.

On the afternoon of 8 September, Buckingham Palace issued a doctor's concern about her health and major British television stations suspended regular programming to concentrate on full live camera coverage of Balmoral Castle and Buckingham Palace. Presenters and reporters discreetly changed into black suits and black ties and spoke in low and slow tones as they explained the current situation. People gathered unannounced at the gate of Buckingham Palace and Balmoral to pray for the Queen. The rainy weather making everything extra heavy.

When Buckingham Palace lowered its flags to half-mast to announce the death of Queen Elizabeth II. It was also announced that Prince Charles had succeeded to the throne as His Majesty King Charles III.

When King George VI died on 6 February 1952, Elizabeth II then aged 25 succeeded to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II. She is the longest-reigning monarch in British history and head of 54 Commonwealth countries. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, is a witness to worldwide contemporary history. The Queen has seen 15 British Prime Ministers come and go, starting with the former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Her Majesty has stood rock-solid with her people until the last breath of her life. The Queen is the soul of Britain and a lifetime of humble devotion.

The Queen met 14 American presidents, travelled to 129 countries met leaders and celebrities and won their respect and trust with her wisdom, grace, humour and calmness.

For 96 years, almost a century, The Queen has witnessed the changes in the world, and the world thanks Her Majesty for her lifetime contribution.

This day, 8 September 2022, people around the world are deeply saddened by her passing.

6 February 1952
King George VI passed away and Elizabeth, who was visiting Kenya at the time, succeeded him as Queen of England.
2 June 1953
The coronation of Elizabeth II took place at Westminster Abbey and was also televised for the first time. The total population of the UK at the time was around 36 million, with around 27 million watching the live broadcast.

25 December 1957
Queen Elizabeth II accepts the BBC's offer to broadcast the Christmas message live on television. This is the first time people have seen the Queen at home.
27 May 1965
Queen Elisabeth II and and Prince Philip's first visit to Germany since the end of the Second World War was instrumental in the reconciliation of the two countries and the re-acceptance of Germany to the world.
May 1970
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip walked among the crowds for the first time during their visit to Australia, breaking centuries of tradition of waving from a horse-drawn carriage.
7 June 1977
25th Silver Jubilee Celebration at St. Paul's Cathedral, where she reaffirmed her vows and kept her promise all her life.
29 July 1981
Charles and Diana got married and the live broadcast of the wedding was watched by some 750 million people in 74 countries around the world.
13 October 1986
The first visit to China by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the first British monarch in history to make an official state visit to Beijing.
1992
40th anniversary of the succession of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles and Diana announce their separation, Andrew and his wife also separate, Princess Anne divorces her husband and at the end of the year Windsor Castle catches fire.
6 September 1997
Queen Elizabeth II made a televised speech in response to the death of Princess Diana in Paris.

The Golden Jubilee celebrated the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne. The first British monarch to celebrate the Golden Jubilee since Queen Victoria. In the same year, the Queen’s Mother and her sister passed away. Overseas trips totalled more than 40,000 miles in the year.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited Ireland at the invitation of the President of Ireland, Mary Mcaleese. It was the first time she had crossed the border line between Northern Ireland and Ireland and set foot on Irish soil as the British head of state. It was also the first visit to Ireland by a British monarch in 100 years.

The UK welcomed a new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, who became the third female Prime Minister in the country's history when the Queen, for health reasons, broke with custom to receive and appoint a new Prime Minister for the first time at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Throughout HM Queen Elizabeth II seven-decade reign, she upheld the vow she made as a young princess.
