Chris Oven CREATING BEYOND BORDERS AND THE RHYTHM OF LIFE

Between movement and matter, instinct and impact, Chris Oven has created a universe where art never stands still. Sculptor, painter, inventor and visual storyteller, he transforms aluminium, copper, iron and colour into living forms driven by rhythm, speed and urban energy. His work is at once playful and radical, raw yet remarkably precise, unfolding through sculpture, painting and RaqBall, where movement itself becomes a language.

During our meeting in Paris, it quickly became clear that Chris Oven is not simply an artist, but a catalyst for imagination. His creative world is built upon openness, optimism and a genuine desire to connect people through art. Rather than placing creativity on a pedestal, he invites everyone to participate, believing that imagination belongs to all generations and all cultures.

Throughout his career, Oven has continuously challenged traditional boundaries between artistic disciplines. Sculpture becomes performance, sport becomes artistic expression, and public spaces become places of discovery. Whether working with polished metals, vibrant colours or the dynamic language of movement, his creations are united by one constant purpose: inspiring people to see the world differently.

Central to this philosophy is RaqBall, the inclusive sport he invented, where movement, creativity and participation merge into a universal language. Far more than a game, it reflects his belief that art should be experienced physically as well as emotionally, encouraging connection across age, culture and ability.

Education also occupies a significant place within his practice. Through workshops across France and internationally, Chris Oven encourages children to embrace their own imagination rather than imitate others. For him, creativity is neither exclusive nor inherited—it is a human instinct waiting to be awakened.

Beyond sculpture and painting, his artistic universe extends into cinema, live performance, design and public installations. Each discipline informs the next, creating a continuous dialogue where movement becomes both subject and medium. His work reminds us that artistic expression is not confined by categories but flourishes through curiosity, experimentation and freedom.

Throughout our conversation, Chris Oven speaks with the same energy that defines his work—generous, spontaneous and deeply human. He reflects on artistic freedom, the importance of simplicity, the role of movement in creativity and his unwavering belief that everyone possesses the ability to create. His vision is refreshingly optimistic, reminding us that art is not reserved for galleries alone but belongs wherever imagination is allowed to flourish.

More than an interview, this encounter reveals the philosophy behind an artist who continues to build bridges between disciplines, generations and cultures. In Chris Oven's world, creativity is not a destination but an invitation—one that encourages us to look again, imagine again and begin again.

QCEG MAG — First of all, thank you for welcoming us into your creative universe. What is fascinating about your work is the balance between something deeply meaningful and, at the same time, something light, playful and joyful. How do you explain this unique energy that runs through everything you create?

Chris Oven

Yes, it's serious, but it's not serious... and yet it is. If it becomes too serious, it doesn't work anymore. I create things for everyone—for you, for him, for all— so people can come together. Blending people and erasing differences, that's the idea. I'm professional, but not "serious" in a rigid way.

QCEG MAG — What is the intention behind your work?

Chris Oven

It comes from something deep inside me—a desire to inspire people to change their lives and recognise their own potential. I want to awaken creativity in others. Recently, a young filmmaker adapted one of my scripts and told me it had brought magic back into his life. In a way, I'm like Merlin the Magician—but for real.

QCEG MAG — You describe yourself as a very simple person. Why?

Chris Oven

Because simplicity is freedom. When people become too serious, they lose it. I try to make people smile and help them understand that they can create too.

QCEG MAG — You created the game RaqBall. What does this sport represent for you?

Chris Oven

Joy. It's an inclusive sport for everyone: children, adults, older people and people with disabilities. Families can play together. There is no physical contact, so boys and girls can compete on equal terms. It's about pleasure, inclusion and human connection.

QCEG MAG — Why is working with children so important to you?

Chris Oven

Children absorb everything very quickly, especially between the ages of seven and twelve. I tell them they can create too. Whether it's RaqBall, painting or sculpture, I want them to discover their own imagination rather than copy mine.

QCEG MAG — You also run workshops in schools and work with children in different countries. What do these experiences represent for you?

Chris Oven

Yes—in France, but also in Morocco, Tunisia, Berlin, Cannes, Nice and Mougins. I've led workshops with hundreds of children. They create freely and, for a moment, they forget everything else around them.

QCEG MAG — Where do your ideas come from?

Chris Oven

Ideas are everywhere. I can look at a bird, a street sign or something ordinary outside and suddenly imagine something completely new. When I created RaqBall, it all started with road signs, imagining a ball, a target and movement coming together.

QCEG MAG — Do you think technology disconnects young people from creativity?

Chris Oven

Today, many young people build their ideas only from screens. I try to remind them that behind every invention, every game and every object, there was first someone who imagined it. Creativity begins when we start observing the real world again.

QCEG MAG — Everything you do—art, sport, cinema and games—seems connected.

Chris Oven

Yes, completely. Artists are not meant to do just one thing. RaqBall, sculpture, cinema, music and design all come from the same artistic spirit. Movement itself is an aesthetic.

QCEG MAG — You also create live performances?

Chris Oven

Yes. I can create a piece in front of people in twenty or thirty minutes. It becomes a performance. People stop, they watch, and something changes inside them. That's why I create.

QCEG MAG — Finally, how would you describe your universe?

Chris Oven

I create, I mix, I transmit. I want people to stop, look and awaken their own creativity. Everyone can create. It's actually very simple.
