L'Eldorado
Franck Sorbier Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2025–2026
Franck Sorbier’s Autumn/Winter 2025–2026 Haute Couture Collection, Eldorado, unfolds as a hypnotic meditation on myth, craftsmanship, and shared memory. Revered for his narrative-led design philosophy, Franck Sorbier transformed the runway into a ritualistic stage, where each look revealed itself as a chapter — layered with symbolism and spiritual resonance, privileging cultural depth over material opulence. For Sorbier, couture transcends fashion; it is a vessel of meaning, an echo of heritage, and a living homage to artistic lineage.
Drawing from the mysticism of ancient Andean civilisations and the opulent theatricality of Baroque Europe, Sorbier introduced sculptural silhouettes that exuded regal presence and ceremonial poise. Billowing gowns crafted from pleated silk organza resembled sacred vestments, while tailored velvet coats adorned with hand-cut satin ribbon ‘armour’ suggested both fortitude and guardianship.
The colour palette evoked a sense of the elemental and eternal: molten gold, volcanic black, burnt sienna, oxidised copper, and deep earthen tones conjured the allure of unearthed treasures—artefacts preserved and weathered by time. This patina of age bestowed the collection with an air of mystery and rediscovery, as though each garment had emerged from the vestiges of a lost empire.
Every detail brimmed with symbolism. Gilded chainmail, coin-inspired adornments, and richly textured fabrics imbued each ensemble with ritualistic meaning. Accessories became sculptural relics in their own right—clay breastplates and solar staffs, conceived in collaboration with artist Bruno Le Page, served as artefacts of a mythical civilisation, lending gravitas and storytelling depth to each look.
Beyond the theatrical, Sorbier offered moments of restrained elegance: fluid tunics and trousers in hand-dyed silk taffeta layered beneath crinkled ponchos of luminous golden silk organza. Corsetry and skirts fashioned from gilded compression patchwork paid homage to the precision of Andean textile arts, while embroidered mesh stoles and jewel-encrusted bibs provided touches of grace, intimacy, and reverence.
The set design enriched the drama. A volcanic-inspired scenography framed the collection with elemental force, culminating in a sublime finale: a solitary figure crowned in gold, bearing a staff, radiantly illuminated—an apparition both divine and defiant. It was a closing tableau that distilled Sorbier’s artistic philosophy: that haute couture, at its core, is not merely ornamental — it is soulful. Through Eldorado, he invites us to reflect, to remember, and to honour the sacred artistry woven by hand.
