Since joining Christian Dior in 2018, The styles lead by Kim Jones for the luxury house has presented collections from the brand's ateliers with its history & heritage. Kim reveal "The Looks" in this season's Winter Runway Show in collaboration with Scottish-born painter Peter Doig.
“THE OPENING LOOK”
At the House of Dior, men’s artistic director Kim Jones draws inspiration from the ceremonial garb and the works of painter Peter Doig for the luxurious brand's Winter Collection. In the show's opening, a masculine emsemble, comprising a glittering gilt-embroidered coat worn over an elaborated military-styled star-button jacket spearheaded the lineup of comtemporary looks.
The central theme is regimental attires with accessories such as boots and berets. The collection's textiles and knitwear materials integrated Doig's signatured body-of-works and his brushworks. The collaboration between Kim Jones and Peter Doig extends to the décor of the digital show.
The uniforms with embroidery and embellishment are notably inspired by the Académie des Beaux-Arts which offer a masculine interpretation of couture. Decorations and motifs from the Dior archives are reinvented. Covered buttons are those of the iconic Bar jacket; the gilded embroidery of Rosella, a haute couture evening gown designed by Marc Bohan in the Sixties.
“NEW ART. NEW LOOKS.” - As they said at Dior.
